Segreta mina… settembre ‘89
Si decide a tavolino l’uscita del doppio album prenatalizio che la signora interpreta come di consueto magistralmente. A chi può chiedere al riguardo lei commenta il disco con un “Bah, le solite cose…” . L’album esce. Venderà? Sì? No? Ma va’… Poco sembra importare a lei che sgrana gli occhi e non sa cosa rispondere a chi le domanda quali siano le canzoni che ama di più fra tutte quelle incise dal ’58 a oggi. Lei le ha cantate e basta, poi siamo stati noi a tappezzare di ricordi tanti cieli in tante stanze…
Lei, bella fuori e dentro, sacra, profana, accidiosa fino al punto di farsi odiare, decide che il remake di Io vorrei, non vorrei ma se vuoi non le piace affatto; dunque lo scarta. Fortunatamente non lo “sporca”, anche se è un rischio. E’ già successo che un pezzo inedito, magari ancora in abbozzo, sia uscito dalla sala d’incisione e abbia fatto il giro d’Italia…
Milano, al ristorante “Il Consolare”. Sono le 19 e lei è lì che mangia e sfoglia il bollettino del Fan club. Un po’ seccata, alla fine sbotta: “Ma come fanno questi a sapere tutte queste cose?”. E’ un settembre molto caldo e lei ne soffre. E’ irrequieta e si sazia rapidamente. Poi decide che non le va di aspettare un amico in ritardo. Addio nella notte, verso Monza. Troppo caldo in città!
Mina si è ritirata dalle scene e si è nascosta da qualche parte, ma noi continuiamo a chiedere di lei all’amico dell’amico di un amico di famiglia Mazzini. ”Sapete che vorrebbe cantare l’ Ave o Maria?” suggerisce l’ultimo arrivato. Sì, è vero. Lo vorrebbe tanto e prima o poi lo farà. Per il resto, “bah, le solite cose. Lasciatemi in pace, ho chiuso!”. E potremmo rispettare questa sua decisione se non l’amassimo troppo per lasciarla fantasma indisturbata nel labirinto di Lugano.

L’antefatto si svolse durante la tournée nel 1970. Ci spostavamo preferibilmente in macchina o in treno.
Si giocava a poker in uno scompartimento ferroviario, certe volte a soldini, io, la Mina, Bernardini, che era il grande patron della Bussola, artefice di quella tournée Mina-Gaber, e Alberto Baldan, che era il pianista dell’orchestra.
Giocando persi proprio con lei una certa cifra, due o trecentomila lire dell’epoca, non erano maluccio. Era molto brava a carte, sveglia, corretta.
Arrivati in albergo compilai l’assegno: bussai alla camera di Mina, entrai e dissi: – Ho qui l’assegno da darti.
- Non ne parliamo neanche. Assolutamente. Non lo voglio.
- No, l’assegno tu lo prendi.
- Assolutamente no.
Andiamo un po’ avanti con questa piccola lotta quando…
Devo fare un piccolo passo indietro.
Viaggiando di notte lei aveva sentito alla radio due brani strumentali che io avevo fatto per la Ricordi, e le erano piaciuti.
Allora ho giocato la carta; – e va bene, ho detto, visto che non vuoi i soldi ti farò un arrangiamento gratis, quando lo vorrai, ma mi deve piacere!
Lei rise e a quel punto chiudemmo così.
C’era un pezzo che le era stato arrangiato due volte. Lo voleva buttare via. Ma decise di tentare un’ultima carta con me.
Vado in Basilica, ascolto la canzone, sento che può esserci qualcosa di forte; effettivamente gli arrangiamenti fatti sapevano di vecchio… si può far fare al pezzo una svolta più moderna.
Era luglio, ricordo, quando ci siamo salutati… lasciandomi all’uscita della sala Mina mi disse: – Pino, non ti preoccupare. Se io non dovessi fare questo pezzo significa che è sfigato, e allora lo butteremo nel cesso.
Tutta l’estate fu una vacanza-lavoro con Augusto Martelli: io ero il suo bassista. Provai e riprovai l’arrangiamento, quasi ogni pomeriggio.
In settembre tornai in Basilica e realizzai la base, come facevo sempre, con i musicisti e così è nacque Grande grande grande.
Tony Renis sulle prime rimase un po’ perplesso perché immaginava qualcosa di spagnoleggiante. Mina lo ascoltò e fu contentissima. Rimase entusiasta. Il resto è storia.
Il pezzo ha funzionato e io non sono stato pagato per l’arrangiamento come d’accordo, anche se il delizioso papà Mazzini, previa telefonata, mi fece pervenire un assegno in regalo.
Per lei comunque io avrei lavorato gratis.

Nemmeno io ascoltavo la Callas, un tempo. Fosti proprio tu a rintronarmi con questa strana voce grave e plumbea, in una Casta Diva di non sò più quale incisione, una notte di Capodanno di ventidue anni fà a Kitzbuhel….ti sovviene? Mi innamorai, allora. Di chi magari ancora lo ricorderai, e senz’altro di lei.
Giorni. E di Neve. Ma non di Baglioni, bensì di Mina. La riascoltavo appena pochi giorni fà, “Giorni” del 77…..il chiarore sul pendìo, il fruscìo e le ciliegie…e Malgioglio che appena un anno dopo ci uccise, tutti quanti, con il grido lacerante di “Ancora ancora ancora”, e ancora ne moriamo…e oggi “Carne viva”. Brava, la Malgiogliona nostra, come dici tu. E brava Mina, tu brava oltre l’mpensabile. Oltre le colline, oltre le lune argentee sui boschi e sulle querce antiche, oltre le sicambri scuri e quel tacco che ho perduto io……
Brava Mina, io ascolto la Callas, quasi quotidianamente. E ascolto te, da quando ballettavo sul seggiolone se alla radio passavano “Le mille bolle blù”, lo ricorda mia madre. Ma non è necessario tentare un raffronto per dire che ad esser brava, brava, bravissima sei proprio tu.

Caro Maurizio, mi parli di fatti avvenuti trenta anni fa come se fossero passati tre giorni… Io ti giuro che se non conservassi le fotografie di quella vacanza non mi ricorderei niente! Casta Diva? Si, fu una scoperta sensazionale, allora, ma per quello che mi riguarda finì lì. Tutti i tentativi per farmi piacere la voce della Callas fallirono qualche anno dopo perché i miei amici melomani mi dicevano: questo non lo devi ascoltare perché la registrazione non è buona, quello invece è registrato bene ma lei era “vecchia” e la voce era rovinata. Alla fine la piantai lì e oggi mi ascolto con piacere Angela Gheorghiu…
La voce della Mina? Per qiello che mi riguarda è completa! Mi capita di ascoltare delle grandi cantanti, ogni tanto, e c’è sempre qualcosa che manca, nel timbro… Per esempio, la Vaughan… eccezionale, si ma le note alte… Oppure la Franklin, straordinaria anche lei, forse un pochino ruvida e poi le note basse… La Streisand, unica, ma la sua voce è sempre uguale… A questo punto per darmi una mano ci vorrebbe Antonio Bianchi. Lui si che la sa lunga in fatto di voce…
Eppoi, con i dischi di Mina mi è sempre successa una cosa. Ho avuto la sensazione che qualcosina, in ogni disco, l’avesse cantata solo per me, che neanche mi conosce… Hai presente la dea Kalì? Kalì! Non sarebbe male come titolo per un suo prossimo disco…
P.S. – Ricordo una mega festa a casa tua, tutta optical (in bianco e nero). L’epoca era forse di Italiana… Tu cantavi “Senza fiato lasciami e poi…” io invece avevo riscoperto “Bum, ai! Che colpo di luna, cosa faccio, metto in testa la borsa del ghiaccio…”. Ciao, Lucio.

Non so se ti è mai capitato di pensare: “Ma che bello se cantasse questa canzone…”. A me è successo con la battistiana “Con il nastro rosa”. Quand’ero ragazzino la desideravo fortissimamente. Nel ’93, Mina l’ha cantata. Ed è stata una somma delusione. E non solo per l’arrangiamento: nella molteplicità di voci e di approcci interpretativi azzeccare le aspettative del singolo ascoltatore ha le stesse probabilità di un terno al lotto. A sedurre sono i pezzi su cui non avresti scommesso una cicca. La Mina “privata”, quella più in sintonia con i gusti del singolo ascoltatore, si scova a casaccio. E la scelta è questione soggettiva. Prova a chiedere a chi conosce a fondo il suo repertorio di stilare una classifica dei brani meglio cantati, o di quelli che hanno suggellato la “passione” o – ancora – di quelli che assecondano di più il gusto personale. Difficilmente troverai titoli doppione. Non succede così con Barbra Streisand, che canta allo stesso modo dall’album del debutto. Difficilmente Barbra delude le aspettative. E il repertorio affrontato è sempre ammantato di un barlume di prevedibilità. Una passione senza scossoni, senza battibecchi, all’insegna di un imperturbabile rispetto. Vuoi mettere Mina?
